Mississippi DHS Temporary Assistance For Needy Families TANF
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, administered by the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS), provides benefits for families with needy children under age 18 without regard to race, creed, or national origin. Monthly TANF benefits are paid for children and their needy caretaker relatives who do not have enough income or resources to meet their everyday needs by state standards.
Provides up to 60 months of benefits. Helps with expenses when you are out of work. Builds work-readiness skills. You may also be eligible for the Child Care Payment Program. Serves any size family. Assists with finding a job through the TANF Work Program (TWP).

When an application for assistance is made, a worker will conduct an interview and collect information to see whether the family is eligible according to all of the TANF regulations. Then the person will receive a notice in the mail within 30 days stating whether the family is approved for benefits.
